Relax with a Cup of Chamomile Tea

IMG_0790[1]

The Chamomile herb is a lightly scented aromatic plant with yellow buds. It has a mild taste and is free of caffeine. We've been using it for herbal treatments and as a tea for a very long time, dating back to the ancient Egyptian era where it was a prized herb.

Chamomile is popularly known for its calming effects. It isn't harsh on the system and gives someone a slight advantage to being lulled to sleep right before bed time or soothing frazzled nerves before a big event.

I prefer to drink my herbal teas mostly straight, that is with out sugar. But for those who need it, try steeping a cup and add a teaspoon of honey and a little lemon. I also love to add mint leaves, which will also calm the digestive system.

You can use the tea for other purposes such as a natural skin treatment. Take the cooled cup of tea and place it in a bottle (glass, if you have one). I have kept this in small portions, refrigerated. Use it as a mild toner/astringent. It will gently brighten, tone the skin and help the appearance of enlarged pores.

As with any herb or supplement, the affect it has on someone is unique to each person. Always take into consideration what other foods, drinks and medications you are taking, all chemicals interact with each other.

Wishing you peace and abundant blessings...and remember to take good care of your self so you can give the best to those around you!

Detox in the Summer Heat

Summer Detoxing Tips

One of the best ways to rid the body of impurities is through the skin. Our skin absorbs a lot  (mositurizers, perfumes, cleansers). It is also one of the best ways to release the toxins, by sweating continuously for about 20 minutes. This is a quick list on what you can do to get on your way to a summer detox:

Take advantage of the sun, walk up a good sweat by going for a 15-20 minute walk. You will get in a dose of vitamin D, get a quick break from sitting at your desk and also get a few minutes of the healing sun rays.

Have a hot sea salt bath, it's great for stress relief, soothes sore muscles and helps purge the pores of the skin.

Try a sauna, there are several types to experiment with that are found at fitness clubs, day spas, resorts and hotels. There are 2 main types such as the dry saunas which include infrared (found in various spas) and saunas whose heat source is based from burning wood (sweat lodges). The second type is the steam sauna, which is the most well known. Each type provides a good cleansing of the skins pores and also promotes a deep sense of relaxation.

The main idea is to start thinking about detoxing on a regular basis by using natural resources. It helps you feel better physically and also aids in soothing the mind.

P.S. Don't forget to drink a couple of big glasses of water after your summer detox session!

Sending blessings for lots of ease and grace!

Feel the Sun

IMG_0268

As we move along into the depths of summer, we notice that the days are getting shorter. I'm being more mindful of this and taking a little bit more advantage of the sun's rays before we roll into the fall season....only about a month away.

Make a note to go outside if only for a few minutes on your breaks at work and feel the sun on your face.

You may wonder why the sun is so good for us:

It nourishes our body with vitamin D. The sun is the best source of it.

The sun's rays are a wonderful mood enhancer. Sunshine brings on smiles and happy faces.

It is a connection to nature and connecting to nature is part of our origin.

Experience the beauty of the outdoors for it is our true playground. Feel the essence of a cool breeze, explore a sunrise and see the early morning dew, then find peace from the day in a golden sunset.

Spiritually Prep for Your Day

I like to begin the day with a combination of prayer and meditation.

Meditation is about receiving. Gently we begin to open to receiving God's messages. Less chatter in our minds, more clarity in our hearts. I've discovered that meditation can be achieved in many ways. We may find peace in listening to music, reading poetry, gardening or maybe even taking a nice stroll. You can start by taking a moment to your self in the morning before beginning the day. Even 3 minutes is a good start to  begin to listen to the stillness, and enjoy the quietness of the early morning. The inner quiet comes to us when the mind is at ease. This is a peace that showers us with a warm breeze. It should not feel hard, but like a simple act. The only requirement is listening with your heart.

3 Tips for Some Simple Spring Cleansing

Sweat out your toxins:

I like to keep it simple when it comes to detoxing on a regular basis. Once a week, try a hot Epsom, sea salt or Himalayan salt bath. Soak for 20-30 minutes and try to get the water at a temperature where you can consistently sweat for a good 15 minutes. The skin is the largest organ and sweating it out is one of the simplest detox techniques to use. If you really want to deep cleanse, do the bath every day for 30 days and add 5-7 drops of pure essential eucalyptus or peppermint oil.

Increase your green veggies:

For most people, veggies aren't their favorite food, especially the greens. I invite you to be creative, explore and keep an open mind. When you create a salad, aim for dark leafy greens (green leaf lettuce, butter crunch lettuce, romaine, spinach, kale). The more of it you eat, the more vitamins/minerals you take in and the more cleansing you receive. Aim to eat one salad a day, either as a side item or as a main meal.  Regardless of it being a small quantity, the servings will add up. It will gradually become a natural habit. You are training the mind and the taste buds at the same time.

Try aromatherapy:

I like to use pure essential oils to help clean the air in my house. You can use a diffuser or place a few drops in a simmering pot of water.  It will aid in keeping viruses and bacteria at low levels. Try the lavender, rosemary or sage oils. For a more citrus and refreshing scent, use the lemon or orange essential oils. Those are great for also lifting moods and inhaling for an energy boost.

Leave a comment and let me know how you get along with your spring cleansing.....

Four Ways to a Wonderful Morning Routine

Four Ways to a Wonderful Morning Routine

The beginning of the day can lay the foundation for how you deal and function through out the rest of your day. It's easy to rush around in the early morning going to school, work or running those errands. The body will love you for giving it more time to ease into the day. It doesn't take huge amounts of time to incorporate a healthy, stress prevention regimen before heading out the door.

The practice of Gratitude welcomes in the day and nourishes the soul. Give thanks for even the smallest things in life. It could be the sun shining through the window or just being able to arise and see a brand new day. This will open your heart and prepare you for accepting situations and dilemmas through the day.

The gift of Breath enlivens the body with energy, increases circulation and stimulates the mind. Taking full deep breaths first thing in morning will awaken the body. Fill your lungs with air and exhale fully. A good 3-5 breaths will aid in detoxifying the lungs and also clear out morning brain fog.

Drinking Water is an excellent reviver from your night's slumber. Start with one glass and gradually aim for 3 glasses to help flush the system. Replenish the body with pure water to ignite the cells in your body. After several hours of sleep, it is beneficial for the bowels to move. Drinking a good amount of water aids in elimination.

Movement is also a way to start the day on a good foot. Just a few minutes or even just one minute can stimulate the circulation and loosen stiff points in the body from the previous night's sleep. Simple moves such as side stretches, touching your toes or maybe a light jog in place can awaken your larger muscles.

Taking time for self-care can go a long ways, and the effects are so good for you. Even five minutes in the morning can make a huge difference. After you get use to the results, it will evolve from there. Always be good to yourself, because our bodies are worth it.

Peace and Grace.

Feel Good in a World of Chaos

It's hard sometimes to feel peace inside when all the world is going insane these days. Our connection to God has a great deal to do with our spiritual health. It will feed our mind, hearts and soul. The connection to the Divine will help guide us to a peace deep within.

We can find a quiet space and a few moments to be grateful and give thanks for the present moment. Peace within ourselves will give us a light to brighten the darkness of a chaotic world.

Spending time each day to feel how we are all connected spiritually and energetically, will give yourself a clearer vision and path. Peace with in ourselves gives us the strength to overcome the stress of daily life.

As we all know, stress can be a trigger for much disease in the body and also the mind. It helps to know that we are not floating along just by chance. But we have a path or a journey that each individual is traveling along. The clearer our vision is, the clearer our path........the less stress we have, the more peace we have. This leads us to the gift of God's love. It may look complicated, but it is all but so simple.

Capture your peace, and the next day will all be quite clearer.
